Knowlogy K2000-MSS CD-i

Description

The Knowlogy K2000-MSS is a relatively obscure CD-Interactive (CD-i) player, released in the 1997 as part of Philips’ CD-i platform. The system was designed as a multimedia device capable of playing interactive CDs—including games, educational titles, video, and music—long before the internet and DVDs became commonplace. The K2000 is identical tot the LG/DVS VE-200, but branded under the Knowlogy name. Knowlogy is a US-based IT training and consulting firm providing services to government and corporations.

The K2000-MSS was primarily developed for schools in Saoudi Arabia and was developed in cooperation with the Saoudi ministry of education. Some sources on the internet suggest that approximately 103 specific Saoudi CD-i titels were developed for the system, but not much is know about them.

What Makes the K2000 Special?

Despite this, CD-i players—especially rare models like the Knowlogy K2000-MSS—have gained a niche following among collectors and retro-technology enthusiasts due to their uniqueness and their place in multimedia history.The DVS VE-200 is a CD-i player manufactured by LG that was introduced in 1998. It is therefore one of the last CD-i consoles and also one of the few CD-i consoles that was not made by Philips. The VD-200 was targeted at the American market. It uses a GoldStar/LG mainboard and can play NTSC and PAL software and movies after pulling a small switch at the back of the console. This makes this version of the CD-i a perfect choice for people who have PAL and NTSC software. The console closely resembles the Knowlogy K2000-MSS in appearance.
